London on a Budget – it IS Possible!

London on a Budget – it IS Possible!

So we all know London isn’t the cheapest of places to visit. As an Australian in the UK I especially felt the pinch – the conversion is a little on the hectic side. If you’re on a tight budget, staying for more than a few days can be pretty expensive. We were on a tight budget when we first arrived here, lacking in jobs, accommodation and trying not to spend all our savings before we had to fork over gigantic apartment deposits. So I’ve worked out a few ways to be frugal in one of the world’s most expensive cities

Top Five Swimming Spots on Australia’s East Coast

Top Five Swimming Spots on Australia’s East Coast

I grew up in Brisbane which meant a childhood of summers at beautiful east coast beaches all the way from up north to NSW. Australian’s aren’t afraid of a road trip if at the end we get a good view, icy beer and a cool place to plonk our bodies in some water. I love the western coast of Australia, its jaw-droppingly aqua bodies of water don’t leave much to be desired EXCEPT what the east coast can provide. What do our beaches have that the western coast doesn’t? Warmer water, less sharks. Nuff said. These are my topĀ five swimming

A Quick Guide to Brighton // UK

A Quick Guide to Brighton // UK

In my short time in the UK I’ve had a few quick trips to Brighton. Perhaps not enough time to fairly write a guide to Brighton but I’ll give it my best shot. My first feeling about Brighton was true love. It reminds me of a mix between Melbourne’s lane-ways and The RocksĀ in Sydney – but a little less…. er, kept? It’s grubbier but still full of colour, art and as many hipsters as the eyes and heart can handle. It IS possible just to have a couple of days in Brighton and see most of the important sites in

Tripping to Wine Town // Photo Diary

Tripping to Wine Town // Photo Diary

If you follow us over at Brisbane Threads, you may have seen my post last year on the Hunter Valley trip. There were so many things I loved about the Hunter Valley… but would I go there again on a budget? No. It’s definitely somewhere to head when you have some mulah up your sleeve. When you’re there, you want to indulge in the slightly pricey restaurants and stock up on some delish wine and cheese to take home. This post is just a simple photo diary with some of the highlights but if you’re inspired – head on over

Day trip // France // Saint Valery Sur Somme

Day trip // France // Saint Valery Sur Somme

Easter weekend was coming up and we didn’t want to let it go by without doing something fabulous. Prices are high over this weekend in Europe though so we needed to keep things fairly low-key and keep it brief. After some research we found a P&O ferry doing a deal for a carload of people from Dover to Calais in France for $24 return with SIX BOTTLES OF WINE FOR FREE. YEP. What was the wine like? It was like drinking wee but still! Cooking wine – hurrah! So off to France before the sun was up, we were. It

UK Road Trip // Kent // Dover & Folkstone

UK Road Trip // Kent // Dover & Folkstone

If you read my last post, you’ll know that I recently did a road trip from Surrey, through Kent. Today we go over the second part of our journey, so come along. Dover is famous for its white cliffs and its castle – which is the largest in England. We actually didn’t properly do the castle this time as I’m told you need to leave the better part of a full day to properly see everything and learn the full history. So we trekked along the stunning white cliffs and looked out to France. It was at Dover that my

UK Road Trips // Kent // Tunbridge Wells & Canterbury

UK Road Trips // Kent // Tunbridge Wells & Canterbury

This week I did a bit of exploring around Kent in the UK. It was our first UK road trip and one to remember. Our base was a little outside of a small town called Sandwich. A sweeter town you never did see. It was the perfect place to base ourselves as there is so many small towns every which way from Sandwich to explore. As we journeyed in from Surrey our first stop was Royal Tunbridge Wells. The royal well is actually pretty disappointing so probably not much worth a look but the rest of the town is certainly

Phi Phi Islands Photo Diary

Phi Phi Islands Photo Diary

Phi Phi Islands hold some of the most glorious beaches you will ever see. Crystal clear and bright aqua soft waves, cafes that come out onto the beach after dusk, friendly locals – it doesn’t get better for a relaxing beach destination. My advice would be to hit up the touristy areas for a day trip but try staying a little off the beaten track. The beaches are even nicer when it’s just you and a couple of others on them! Check out my photo diary and get excited for your Phi Phi adventure!
